Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

As you may have heard, Ohio has passed a new law requiring all public schools to prohibit student cell phone use during the instructional day. While schools across the state must put this policy in place by January 1, 2026, Ayersville High School will begin enforcing it on the first day of the 2025–26 school year on August 25th.

During the school day (including class time, passing periods, lunch, and any other supervised activities), students will not be permitted to use personal cell phones. This change is designed to reduce distractions, encourage face-to-face interaction, and help all students stay engaged in their learning.

Exceptions will be made for:
- Students with documented health-related needs that require phone access.
- Students in College Credit Plus (CCP) courses requiring two-factor authentication for login.

These exceptions will be granted individually and phones may only be used at appropriate times.

We know this is a shift, and we appreciate your partnership in helping students adjust. Please take a moment to review the attached “Be Present. Be Engaged. Be Phone Free.” graphic from the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce for more details about the statewide policy.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at garrett.grime@ayersvillepilots.org or (419) 395-1111.

Sincerely,
Garrett Grime

Reminder:
CCP Students & Parents — Mrs. Manriquez will offer ART 101: Art Appreciation at Ayersville for both the fall and spring semesters through Owens Community College. This course fulfills 3 of the 6 Arts/Humanities semester hours required by most college majors and is a great way to complete a common general education requirement right here at Ayersville. To see how credits transfer, visit Transferology.

Join us TONIGHT (Monday, August 11th) at 7:30 PM in the Commons. An Owens representative will help with the application and registration process. A parent must attend.

CCP Students and Parents

We’re excited to announce that Mrs. Manriquez has been approved to offer a College Credit Plus (CCP) Art course at Ayersville for both the fall and spring semesters through Owens Community College. The course offered is ART 101: Art Appreciation.

Most college majors require 6 semester hours in Arts/Humanities as part of their general education requirements. This course will fulfill 3 of those hours at most institutions. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a CCP course right here at Ayersville that meets a common general education requirement for many degree programs. To verify how the credit transfers to potential colleges, please visit Transferology.

On Monday, August 11th at 7:30 PM in the Commons, a representative from Owens will be present to assist CCP students with both the application and registration process for the course at Ayersville.

A PARENT MUST ALSO ATTEND THIS MEETING.

For any questions, please contact Mrs. Phipps at kim.phipps@ayersvillepilots.org.

Mr. Potts recently participated in the Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program, a collaborative initiative between Bowling Green State University and the National Science Foundation. This program is designed to deepen educators’ understanding of STEM fields — particularly in the area of advanced manufacturing — and bring that real-world knowledge back to the classroom.

Through his involvement, Mr. Potts is helping students connect classroom learning to the skills and technologies that drive today's workforce.
