We’re proud to share some great news from last night’s Create Your Own Story Creative Writing Contest awards ceremony.

This year’s contest, centered around the theme “Independence,” featured over 100 student entries from across Defiance, Ayersville, and Tinora in elementary through high school divisions. Ayersville students had an outstanding showing, earning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the high school division, along with 1st place in the junior high division.

In the 9–12 division:
🥉 Hannah Altstaetter (junior) – “Breaking Free”
🥈 Kendyll Booher (sophomore) – “Standing Alone”
🥇 Gwendolyn Hibbard (sophomore) – “Sanctuary Skies”

In the 6–8 division:
🥇 Enslie McGuire (8th grade) – “A Dog’s Declaration of Independence” and “A Cat’s Claim of Independence”

As Miss Budke shared, “Mrs. Goonan and I are both incredibly proud of these young writers and the courage they showed in submitting their work and the poise they exhibited reading at last night’s ceremony.”

Congratulations to all of our student writers for representing Ayersville so well. We’re proud of your creativity, your voice, and your willingness to share your work with others. And thank you to our local library for continuing to provide opportunities like this for our students to shine.

Pictures of student artists and their art work.
Still-life pumpkin charcaol drawing by student artist Kayden Wolfrum, featured in the Northwest Ohio Youth Art Month Show.
Violet Caryer holds her artwork that features a bright yellow moon in a dark blue sky, casting light onto a green forest and a serene blue pond in the foreground.
Camden Elkin's mixed media piece features a chameleon with brightly colored geometric lines and shapes that were stitched around it.
Zayne Hug is pictured beside his Salvador Dali pastel portrait.
A blue ceramic mug created by Gavin Elkins is picture. The mug is modeled after a monster. It has unproportional eyes, sharp teeth, small hands, a tail handle, and is eating a gingerbread as half of it is hanging out of his mouth.
Liliana Miles is pictured standing beside her brightly colored oil pastel landscape drawing.
Ryan Yeutter's artwork features a monochromatic portrait. The face is rendered in a high-contrast, posterized style using light green, lime green, and dark forest green tones.
Mixed-media artwork by student artist Violet Armbruster. Her painting features a large, dark blue lily-like flower and green pumpkins or gourds in the foreground, set against an abstract background of purple, yellow, and orange brushstrokes.

What a week! 🐰✨The hunts are officially over, and we can’t stop smiling.
High School Student Council loved hosting a daily Easter Egg Hunt for everyone, but we know what the real highlight was... the legendary "Extra Hunt" for our Principal, Mr. Grime! 🔎 Seeing you all race to track down the "Big Bunny" himself made the week unforgettable. We had just as much fun organizing these daily hunts as you did searching. Thank you to everyone who participated, and a massive thank you to Mr. Grime for being such an incredible sport! 🥕
