Students getting a feel for soybeans

As our region is in the swing of harvest season, the Plant and Animal Science class has started a crop and harvest unit. Each student developed a mini-presentation on their choice of crop, where it grows, and how it's harvested. We have also learned about Ohio's 3 main row crops (soybeans, corn, and wheat) and what happens after it leaves the field! Grain can travel miles and miles and be transformed before it makes its way back to the consumers in the grocery store! The first stop after leaving the field is the grain elevator! Students had the opportunity to explore what happens in grain inspection as they evaluated the moisture, test weight, and damage on soybean samples. Next week our class will continue learning about harvest by estimating potential yield by looking at ears of corn.
